So these explanations must allow for inferential steps that are invalid and yet, to some extent, intelligible. They must show the agent as making a mistake that is characteristic of a limited rational agent. Thus, intentional explanations partly aim to provide us with a view of why a certain 41 42 If one thinks that an intention, not an action, is the conclusion of practical reason, one would have to replace ‘‘intention’’ with ‘‘action’’ here.
