This quantity is a suite of papers in regards to the biology of huge branchiopod crustaceans: Anostraca, Conchostraca, and Notostraca. some of the person papers have been first provided on the 3rd overseas huge Branchiopod Symposium (ILBS-3) held on the collage of San Diego, CA, united states, July 15-18, 1996. Contributions on extra themes from members on the symposium, and from colleagues unable to affix us in San Diego, also are incorporated. furthermore, there's a complement to the 1995 `Checklist of the Anostraca'.
The subject of the ILBS-3 was once `understanding and retaining huge branchiopod diversity'. Researchers from world wide awarded papers on various subject matters relating to conservation of huge branchiopods, with contributions starting from alpha-taxonomy and zoogeography to neighborhood constitution and stories of ecology and evolution. One very important factor built in lots of of the papers during this quantity is the necessity to increase our knowing of simple facets of branchiopod biology during the global to be able to improve our efforts to preserve them. even though now we have made very important strides in knowing the biology of huge branchiopods, we've, with few striking exceptions, made little development in assuring the conservation in their variety. we are hoping this quantity will provide the reader with new principles, and generate enthusiasm for examine and public schooling efforts on behalf of branchiopod conservation.

The maximum number of species coexisting in a single pond was 7 (Table 1). Anostracans were the most common group both in single-species and mUltiple-species ponds. They were found in 73% of all the ponds surveyed (Table 2). Anostracans inhabited 62% of single- 25 E. spinosa L. saetosa L banatica T. cancritormis L.

According to Brtek & Thiery (1995), data are lacking on the Balkans as a whole. However, Daday (1910) reported B. schaefferi from the vicinity of Varazdin (XM02) and Babic (1917) reported it from the neighborhood of Zagreb (WL 77) in Croatia. Recently, Petrov & Marincek (1991) reported B. schaefferi from several localities in northern Serbia. In this paper I report on the distribution and habitat of two species of Branchipus in Macedonia, and include some notes on diagnostic characters. I also discuss the validity of the visnyai form.

Diaphanus, their habitats are not protected and most of them are outside the limits of the protected areas, which are mainly in the western and southern parts of the country. (Figure 4). In 1995 the Faculty of Biology, University of Belgrade, published a book on biodiversity in Yugoslavia (Stevanovic & Vasic, 1995) in order to get a better insight into the present status of certain groups of organisms, including large branchiopods (Petrov, 1995). 35 Acknowledgments We thank Mrs Pavelka Ciric for her help in writing the English version of the text.
