Born in Hungary, Barth trained for the stage in Hannover. Following six years in Frankfurt (1968–74), where she played in productions of Peter Palitzsch and Hans NEUENFELS, she has been working freelance since 1974, appearing in Stuttgart, Köln, Munich and Frankfurt. Parts include Martha in Edward ALBE E’S Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (1983), Inès in Sartre’s Huis clos (In Camera, 1988), and Hippolita in John Ford’s T’is Pity She’s a Whore (19 92, directed by Michael BOGDANOV). More recently she appeared in Shaw’s Heartbreak House in Düsseldorf and in Ariane MNOCHKINE’S adaptation of Klaus Mann’s novel Mephisto in Köln (both 1997).

Bauer’s first play was Der Zikadenzüchter (The Cicada Breeder, 1992), followed by In den Augen eines Fremden (In the Eyes of a Stranger, 1993). Major parts include Pozzo in Beckett’s Waiting for Godot, Touch-stone in As You Like It, Frick in Arthur MILLER’S Last Yankee and Deeley in Harold PINTER’S Old Times.
