5) We have said that we expect diffractions wherever there is a rapid spatial change of acoustic hardness. At an angular unconformity, this condition must arise whenever two adjacent truncated beds are markedly dissimilar. They cut into or completely through the fringe sands, and are also connected with the upstream fluvial sands of braided or meandering streams.
