Wolff–Parkinson–White Syndrome In this syndrome where the ventricular myocardium is activated by both the normal conduction system and through an accessory pathway (eg “preexcited”), the ventricular complex is a fusion beat resulting from ventricular activation of these 2 wavefronts. The degree of preexcitation (amount of muscle activated through the accessory pathway) is variable and depends on many factors, including the distance between the sinus node and the atrial insertion of the accessory pathway, and more importantly the differences in the refractory periods and conduction times through the normal and accessory pathways.
