We next developed an unbiased method of quantifying DOR distribution in the plasma membrane of all detected CINs in the NAc-S [6] which revealed an increase in membrane DOR accumulation in NAc-S CINs from mice that were given Pavlovian training compared with those only exposed to the context. Interestingly, all animals exposed to Pavlovian training showed equivalent, increased membrane DOR levels whether or not they underwent instrumental training indicating that cell surface expression of DOR is induced by Pavlovian training and persists for at least 11 days after cessation of this conditioning.

In the ‘color/position’ dilemma, individual flies are conditioned to choose a flight path in accordance with the color (green and blue) and position (upper and lower) cues and then confronted with choice test with color and position cues reversed after training [2, 3]. We revealed that flies in the ‘paradoxical’ situation resolved the ‘shape/color’ or ‘color/position’ dilemma by taking into account the reliability of the current information during retrieval that wild-type flies could make firm, stable choices on the basis of small differences in the relative salience of competitive cues.
